Looking Singers, Dancers, Drummers, and Spoken Word Performers
for 3rd Annual NC MMIWG2S VIRTUAL Rally to be held on April 24, 2021
Deadline April 1, 2021
MMIWNC is a charitable organization USA registered 501c3 nonprofit, donations to MMIWNC are tax deductible.
May 5 marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. While the 2016 #NoDAPL and #MeToo movements have helped bring attention to Indigenous and women’s issues in general, little has been done at a policy level to address the high numbers of women who go missing in Indian Country. An alarming number of Indigenous women and girls disappear or are murdered each year. The absence of consistent, standardized reporting on the issue has prevented researchers from gaining a true understanding of the problem.
We will also be highlighting the many political and social injustices faced by indigenous people. Crimes of continual cultural genocide and the resilience indigenous people have to endure for generations to come.
MMIW NC Coalition's mission is to build a strong foundation for healing, justice, and reconciliation for the governments (local and state), institutions and community in order to help society's attitudes and understanding of the issue (MMIW, 2018). MMIW NC vision is to provide united tribal leadership in this work by lifting up the collective voices of grassroots advocates in tribal communities.
MMIW NC is to bring our missing home and help the families of the murdered understand and cope through the process of grief.

The first goal of MMIW NC is to provide education against sexual violence to American Indian (AI) women and girls.
The second goal is teaching self-defense to women and girls in the community. Although self-defense classes are increasingly popular, especially those focused on empowering survivors, it is sometimes still met with skepticism and resistance for a variety of reasons
